In 2011, we entered the Ethiopian beer market by acquiring – Harar and Bedele breweries through privatization and made the beautiful and diverse Ethiopia our home and its most gracious, warm, inviting people our community.
Since then, HEINEKEN Ethiopia has been operating to fulfill our purpose of ‘Brewing the Joy of True Togetherness’ and creating a long-term ambition and a sustainable business in the country it calls home.
With a long-term ambition and belief in Ethiopia, HEINEKEN Ethiopia inaugurated its state-of-the-art brewery in 2015 – Kilinto Brewery situated on the outskirts of Addis Ababa with an investment of EUR310mln.
Inspired by our Passion for Consumers and their unique demands, we are the only beer company in the country that delight our consumers with more than eight of our different portfolios of brands ranging from alcoholic and non-alcoholic offerings.
When we established the Kilinto Brewery, we launched our flagship the iconic Walia brand, which hit more than 2 million hectoliters in less than 3 years. Our brewery also brews Heineken®, an internationally loved premium beer, and the growing premium brand, Bedele Special with passion. Our brands Harar and Bedele have a national prominence. Our non-alcoholic brands Sofi Malt and Bertat are the first dark malt beverage and the first malt-based energy drink in the country.
